The Scientific Center, a subsidiary of the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS), organized the “Flower Planting” event in collaboration with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the International Women’s Committee. The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and highlight the role of women in sustainability.
Dr. Amira Al-Hassan, Head of the UN-Habitat Mission in Kuwait and the Gulf Region Office, said:
“We planted flowers to take advantage of the pleasant weather and the transition to a beautiful autumn climate. Joining us were all members of the Diplomatic Women’s Group, along with several female heads of diplomatic missions in Kuwait, including the ambassadors of Canada, Turkey, Indonesia, the Head of Mission of Kenya, the Head of the UNHCR Mission in Kuwait, and the wives of ambassadors.”
She added that the purpose of the event was to learn how to grow plants in Kuwaiti soil and apply that knowledge in our home environments. “This initiative is part of the ‘Kuwait is Planting’ campaign, now in its eighth consecutive year, and is also within the framework of our ongoing cooperation with The Scientific Center, which continues to host and support our community-based environmental activities. All these efforts contribute to combating the effects of global climate change on Kuwait by expanding green spaces,” Dr. Al-Hassan explained.
For his part, Mr. Mohammed Al-Sanousi, Deputy General Manager for Visitor Experience at The Scientific Center, one of KFAS’s centers, expressed his gratitude for the initiative organized by the UN-Habitat Mission in Kuwait and the Gulf Region Office. He noted the presence of ambassadors, ambassadors’ spouses, a number of diplomatic figures, and environmental and community advocates, as well as Dr. Amira Al-Hassan, Head of UN-Habitat.
He added that participants engaged in planting white flower seedlings at the main entrance of The Scientific Center as part of environmental awareness activities aimed at spreading a culture of environmental responsibility within the center and the wider community.
Al-Sanousi further explained that the area designated for the planting is located between The Scientific Center’s parking lots and the VIP station, with the space prepared specifically for this purpose. He also mentioned that The Scientific Center continuously introduces new initiatives, noting that a new event or activity takes place each month. He added that in mid-October, a new IMAX film titled “T-REX” will be screened at The Scientific Center.
